School of Culture & Communication Cinema Studies

School of Culture and Communication Postgraduate Work in Progress day

Call for Papers

Deadline October 9

We would like to invite all MA and PhD students to submit abstracts for the second Work in Progress Day for 2009. While it is compulsory for all PhD students approaching confirmation and completion to present at such a forum we would also like to extend this invitation to all research students as it provides an invaluable opportunity to test ideas in a semi formal and supportive environment.

Work in Progress Day is designed as an opportunity for postgraduates to share their work in a conference-style setting and to hear about the research of others. The 15 - 25 minute papers may take the form of a self-contained conference-style paper or a 'thesis outline' that sketches the main issues and arguments of the research project.

Aims

Work in Progress Day:

The call for papers is emailed to all postgraduates and the submission of abstracts can be filled out here.

For enquiries please contact: Sarah Mathers

We look forward to this event and encourage students to present and come along to support their colleagues on the day.

All graduate research students are encouraged to make at least one public presentation of their work each year. This could occur in a number of ways, such as at a postgraduate seminar, a conference, at the Arts Faculty Research Student Colloquium or one of the 'work in progress' days held around the University.

The School of Culture and Communication's annual Postgraduate Work in Progress (WIP) Day is held twice yearly - in June and November. The Call for Papers will be sent out one month prior.

The June WIP concludes with drinks and the launch of Public Works: Postgraduate Research, Completions, Publications and Presentations, a compendium of all current research and completed theses, as well as articles and books published and conference papers presented by research higher degree students in the School of Culture and Communicationin the preceding year.

The School of Culture and Communication invites you to attend its biannual Work In Progress Day.  This day is an opportunity for higher degree research students of the School to present their work in a public forum, as well as an opportunity for others to hear about and engage with post-graduate research.  The day’s sessions have been scheduled to generate new conversations between the School’s many disciplines, with papers being presented from Cinema and Cultural Studies, Creative Writing, Media and Communications, Visual Media, Art History, Australian Indigenous Studies and English and Theatre Studies.
