Publishing and Communications facilities and research environments
Publishing and Communications staff are keen to encourage research in publishing studies and the history of print cultures.
The University of Melbourne offers excellent resources for research in this interdisciplinary field. On campus, the Baillieu Library's special collections and the Melbourne University Archives hold numerous manuscript collections relating to publishing and authorship, as well as a substantial collection of published works in popular genres. The library also has extensive periodicals holdings extending back to the eighteenth century.
A few minutes' walk away is the State Library of Victoria, which has an exceptionally strong collection of nineteenth- and twentieth-century Australiana. The Publishing and Communications program's strong links with the local publishing industry - in books, magazines and online - also offer numerous opportunities for research into contemporary publishing.
