Publishing and Communications internships & placement subjects
Students in the Postgraduate Diploma and Master of Arts have the opportunity to participate in an internship program. Each intern is assisted to find a placement in a host organisation with a designated mentor on site. The internship involves 100-120 hours' industry work and a research project agreed on by the student, the internships co-ordinator and the host organisation.
General information
Students enrolled in this subject will be assisted to find a placement in a publishing or communications environment. They will undertake unpaid work for 100-120 hours under the guidance of a senior staff person, with additional support from the internships co-ordinator and periodic workshop sessions.
As well as taking part in day-to-day work, students will undertake a research project of concrete and practical benefit to the host organisation. The research topic will be negotiated between the student, the organisation's management and the internships co-ordinator.
Students will develop skills in conducting effective and timely research, as well as analysis and report writing, while also gaining direct exposure to contemporary publishing and communications practice. They will exercise the skills in writing, editing, print and web production they have developed through their university studies and take up the challenge of working in a professional environment.
- To be eligible students must be enrolled in a Postgraduate Diploma or Master's Degree and have achieved a high grade in Editorial English.
- This subject is quota restricted and students must consult the program co-ordinator before enrolling.
