Introduction to Publishing and Communications
The Publishing and Communications program is designed to help graduates to build careers in publishing and offer people currently working in the publishing industry an opportunity to consolidate their skills and broaden their knowledge.
The program combines hands-on skills development with analysis of the varied fields that make up the publishing industry, from books and magazines to digital media.
Our introductory subjects familiarise students with the textual and visual aspects of communication, including editing and production practices, while the practical subjects at Master's level help students to build their understanding of the strategic and commercial aspects of publishing and the associated ethical and legal issues.
At the same time, students have an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the configurations of power within the industry and its interactions with the broader cultural sphere. Specific subjects address the dynamics of the contemporary publishing industry, the impact of globalisation, and the historical analysis of print culture. A thesis is offered as an option for those who wish to pursue research in publishing studies.
The program brings together students from many different disciplines and provides a stimulating environment for those who wish to combine work and study. The members of our teaching staff all have extensive industry experience as well as academic expertise.
Our aim is to equip students with the wide-ranging skills and knowledge required to take leading roles in this rapidly changing industry.
