Publishing and Communications careers
Publishing and Communications in the twenty-first century is a diverse business, offering considerable flexibility in career paths. While the mainstream book and magazine publishers are the most visible face of the industry, many government agencies, educational institutions, private corporations and non-profit organisations also engage extensively in publishing, both in print and digital media.
Graduates of the Publishing and Communications program therefore work in many different roles and environments. These include:
- book editors
- book marketing personnel
- magazine writers and editors
- technical writers, editors and communication managers for software companies and manufacturers of high-technology goods
- production controllers and managers
- web content creators
- publication managers in government and corporate settings
- policy officers with communications responsibilities
The program is carefully designed to provide a supportive learning environment in which students are encouraged to try out a range of potential roles and master publishing skills and strategies for both print and digital media.
