About > Submission Guidelines
Submission Periods
- PLATFORM accepts submissions all year long.
- Submissions that arrive prior to the full paper deadline of an upcoming issue will be considered for that issue. Deadlines are generally set around March/April for the current year's second issue, and August/September for the next year's first issue.
- Submissions received outside of our publication cycle will be considered for subsequent issues. Please note that it may take up to six months for out-of-cycle submissions to be accepted or declined.
Submission Types
- Articles on an issue of relevance to the field of Media and Communication. These may be purely theoretical, methodological, empirical or a combination of the above. (6000-8000 words including notes and references)
- Commentaries and Essays which provoke discussion and act as a platform for future articles. (2000-6000 words including notes and references)
- Reviews which provide accurate summaries and rigorous critiques of books and/or websites as well as reference other works by the same author and/or the work of other authors in a similar area. (1000 words including notes and references)
- Interviews with scholars who have made significant contributions to the field of Media and Communication (1000-2000 word report or transcript; audio and/video supplements are especially encouraged)
- News on research projects, conferences, courses, book launches, and other discipline-related events (up to 700 words)

- In the email subject line, indicate your submission type: submission to sections General, Theme, Review, Interview, or Events; or CV
- Submissions should be attached as Word documents labelled in the following order: author's first initial, surname, a one-word description of your work, and submission type. Example:
- Filename for Esther Chin's abstract on youth and cosmopolitanism: echin_cosmopolitan_abstract
- Filename for Blaise Murphet's full paper on agenda setting: bmurphet_agendasetting_fullpaper
- Filename for Dale Leorke's essay on digital media: dleorke_digitalmedia_essay
- Filename for Akina Mikami's book review of Stuart Allan's News Culture: amikami_Allan_review
- Include six keywords after the 200 word abstract.
- Important note for Word 2007 users: Documents written using Word 2007 must be saved in Compatibility Mode (Save as Word 97-2003 document).
Formating
- Submissions should be formatted according to the APA cribsheet
Guidelines for Embedding Multimedia
- PLATFORM welcomes the embedding of multimedia content within written submissions. If you intend to embed multimedia, please follow the guidelines below.
- Images must be submitted separately as .jpg files and in high-resolution (minimum 300dpi)
- Video and sound clips must be cut to the exact size, and submitted separately as Flash video/audio (.flv, .f4v, .f4v etc) files
- Do not embed multimedia files in the Word document. Instead, please insert reference point(s) in your paper where you would like to include multimedia content
- Include captions along with the source(s) of the multimedia file(s) at the end of your article.
- Please indicate whether the multimedia content was created by you or someone else
- If you use multimedia content created by others, please obtain permission from the copyright owner prior to submission.
Review Process
- Editors Review: Abstracts, reviews, interviews and news
- Peer-Review: Full articles will be subject to blind peer review. Authors will be notified if their papers are accepted, accepted with amendments, or declined. Editors will contact authors regarding amendments and publication administrative matters.
- Board-Review: The journal will be finally reviewed by the editorial and advisory boards before publication.
