Founding Editor

Esther Chin is a PhD candidate in the Media and Communications Program, School of Culture and Communication, University of Melbourne (Australia). Her research is interested in the construction of 'cosmopolitan' worldviews among diasporic youth. This is explored through comparative case studies of media use among Singaporean youth in Melbourne.

Online Editor

Gin Chee Tong is a PhD candidate in the Media and Communications Program, School of Culture and Communication, University of Melbourne (Australia). Her current research investigates the role of print media and the Internet in the (re)construction of national identities, and focuses specifically on the Malaysian Chinese minority community as a case study. When not drafting up chapters for her thesis, Gin Chee can be found online dabbling in HTML codes and/or inundating the blogosphere with random thoughts and ideas.

Amira Firdaus is a PhD candidate in the Media and Communications Program, School of Culture and Communication, University of Melbourne (Australia). Her PhD is concerned with new media's influence on mainstream news agenda. Prior to joining academia, Amira briefly worked in public relations and had a part-time stint hosting a television programme focusing on youth issues. Amira is currently attached to the University of Malaya (Malaysia) as a tutor at the Department of Media Studies.

Dale Leorke is a PhD candidate in the Media and Communications Program, School of Culture and Communication, University of Melbourne (Australia). His current research explores the social impact of mobile media on urban space and the potential for mobile technologies to encourage participation and social interaction in public spaces. His research interests include the history and sociology of public space and the role of media technologies in public life.

Editors, Essay Section

Sebastian Kubitschko is currently completing his MA in Global Journalism in the Media and Communications Program, School of Culture and Communication, University of Melbourne (Australia). His research is interested in networked civic life and “publics” within the (new) media landscape. Sebastian has previously interned in media institutions in Berlin, Milan and Melbourne. He is a member of the editorial team of Arena Magazine.

Blaise Murphet is currently completing his MA in Global Media & Communications in the Media and Communications Program, School of Culture and Communication, University of Melbourne (Australia). His research interests include online and community communications. Blaise has had extensive work experience within the community media sector, and hopes to further his knowledge of this area by continuing his research within this field. He is particularly passionate about ensuring that new media sources are open to involvement to as many users as possible.

Journal Manager

Akina Mikami recently completed her Honours thesis in the Media and Communications Program, School of Culture and Communication, University of Melbourne (Australia). Her research is interested in humanitarian communication, media practices and ethical connection among distant others. Akina has previously interned at International Federation of Journalists, SBS World News and worked as communication coordinator for a Japan-based NGO promoting peace education via travelling.
