Biography

Chris Knowles is a lecturer and researcher in Media Arts at the University of Melbourne School of Creative Arts. He has taught at R.M.I.T. and worked as an artist, consultant, teacher, and facilitator, within Australia and Internationally.

Current research

Chris Knowles's research and creative practice focuses on themes of belonging, sense of place, cultural identity, diversity and heritage, and digital media technology.

His accomplished work spans music composition (as a performer and award winning composer for Australian short films, television documentaries and dramas), film and video production (his films and videos have been screened internationally), and interactive multimedia design.

Chris has extensive experience working with Australian Aboriginal communities and individuals as a creative collaborator, facilitator, and trainer. He created the interactive sound and image installations at the Aboriginal Cultural Centre at Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park, in collaboration and with guidance from elders at Mutitjulu Community. He collaborated with indigenous artist Fiona Foley to create "The Lie Of The Land", an art work commissioned as a gesture of reconciliation by the City of Melbourne, on permament display at the Museum of Victoria.
