Media and Communications Masters thesis progress reporting

Progress Report 2 (Review by Circulation)

A second Progress Report is due at 12 months full-time candidature (two years part-time). Students will be required to submit for review:

* Creative Writing students undertaking a creative component in their thesis should present a substantial amount of work of at least 20,000 words divided evenly between scholarly and creative writing. Creative Arts students undertaking a creative component in their thesis should represent both the scholarly and creative components, in consultation with their supervisor.

The form and review documents should be submitted to the Research Administrator, who will forward them to the assessor. The student will receive an acknowledgement and outcome from the Faculty of Arts Research and Postgraduate Studies Office at the conclusion of the process.

The review of the second Progress Report is coordinated within the school by the disciplinary Research Coordinator who will assess the report or appoint an independent academic assessor (who is not the student’s supervisor) to review it. If it is approved, it will be forwarded to Faculty. If the supervisor and / or academic assessor indicate that progress is unsatisfactory, Faculty will convene a ‘Postgraduate Research Students Progress Panel’, comprising the student, the supervisor and a member of the Faculty’s Research and Research Training Committee. The panel will discuss the student’s progress and provide support or options such as Leave of Absence, extension to candidature or separation (formerly known as lapsing).
