Journals
There are a number of Journals affiliated with the School:
- antiTHESIS is Australia’s longest-running postgraduate interdisciplinary journal of contemporary theory, criticism and culture, appearing annually. It is a fully refereed journal that provides publication opportunities for postgraduates Australia-wide.
- Cultural Studies Review (formerly The UTS Review) is a refereed journal published twice a year in March and September by Melbourne University Publishing.
- e-maj The internet based affiliate of Melbourne Art Journal, e-maj is an online journal published by the Fine Arts Network. Dedicated to publishing postgraduate and undergraduate research in art history and museology, as well as reviews of recent exhibitions, e-maj aims to provide a forum for the publication of research by emerging scholars in all areas and periods of art history and museology. All articles are between four and six thousand words and are blind-refereed by academics working within the relevant field.
- Going Down Swinging is a literary magazine publishing short fiction, poetry, comic art and spoken word, all in the one book/CD package. GDS has been publishing since 1980 to widespread acclaim.
- Melbourne Art Journal (MAJ) is a refereed art history journal published annually. MAJ publishes the annual Joseph Burke and Margaret Manion lectures, as well as on a wide range of art history topics, from medieval to twentieth century, European, Australian, and Asian.
- PLATFORM: Journal of Media and Communication, a biannual open-access online postgraduate publication. Founded by the Media and Communications Program, School of Culture and Communication, University of Melbourne, PLATFORM has just been launched in November 2008. This new postgraduate journal is refereed by an international board of established and emerging scholars working across diverse paradigms in Media and Communication. It is planned to develop it as an international journal. PLATFORM aims to encourage sharing and support within and across Media and Communication postgraduate communities worldwide.
- Refractory: a Journal of Entertainment Media is a refereed e-journal that explores the diverging and intersecting aspects of current and past entertainment media. The journal is published by the Cinema Studies Program.
- Senses of Cinema is an online journal devoted to the serious and eclectic discussion of cinema and is peer-reviewed by request. The journal regularly publishes work of postgraduates in the School.
- Strange is a peer review journal of postgraduate Creative Writing published by CrookedStylesPress in association with the Creative Writing Program in School of Culture and Communication.
