English: Our research strengths
Staff in the English program are engaged in a wide variety of research projects and research partnerships, some individually, and many as part of collaborative teams. Much of this research is funded by Discovery and Linkage grants from the Australian Research Council.
We have particular research strengths in the following areas:
- medieval literature
- seventeenth-, eighteenth- and nineteenth-century literature
- colonial and post-colonial literature
- literary theory, especially psychoanalytic, feminist and aesthetic theory
- American literature
- Australian literature
- Australian Indigenous literature
- popular literature and culture
- medievalism
- gothic and historical fiction
- contemporary literature
- hypertext and electronic textuality
Much of our research is concerned with the intersection between literary texts and other cultural forms, and the changing cultural function of literature.
