Attendance
ALL Tutorials in the School of Culture and Communication for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students and classes for 4th year students begin in the FIRST WEEK of semester.
Attendance at lectures and participation in tutorials is expected in all subjects.
Enquiries and administration
The School of Culture and Communication General Office is located in Rm 216, West Tower, John Medley Building. The normal hours of opening are Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. The office staff are able to offer you assistance in relation to the availability of academic staff, appointments to see the Head of School, and general University and School of Culture and Communication information.
Essays and assignments
Your subject coordinator will advise on assessment submission. Please check the LMS for submission guidelines.
Essay writing guides
Essay writing guide: The Essay writing guide is a general guide on the presentation of essays. Your tutor will tell you if this needs to be supplemented for the purposes of a particular assignment.Citation Style for Art History students: The citation style for Art History is a general guide on the unique referencing requirements for Art History sources.

Extensions
Assignment extensions of up to two weeks (10 working days) duration may be permitted to accommodate unforeseen circumstances, where a student’s capacity to submit required work by the due date has been affected by significant factors beyond their control. To apply for an assignment extension please complete the Assignment Extension Application from available from the Arts and Music Student Centre or your School Office.
For extensions beyond two weeks (10 working days) please apply via your student portal for Special Consideration. Supporting documentation must be provided with any request for an extension of time or an application for Special Consideration. A full two week extension may not be granted if the severity of the circumstances do not warrant it and in this case an extension appropriate to the circumstances will be considered, eg: 2 days, one week, etc.
Extensions are not available for the following:
- Computer failure
- Assessment in other subjects due at the same time
- Employment responsibilities and routine financial support
- Social Activities and commitments
- Stress or ‘normal’ anxiety
- Study or Language Difficulties
- Minor inconvenience - minor illness or mishap that has only a few days impact.
Noticeboards
You should check the noticeboards located on the 2nd floor, West Tower, John Medley Building, and in the Elisabeth Murdoch Building, for specific information about your subject area. Such information includes the time and location of lectures and tutorials for each subject.

Reading lists and additional reading materials
Reading lists and other subject hand-outs will be distributed at lectures and tutorials. If you do not receive copies you should contact your tutor. Subject readers are available for sale at the University Bookshop at the start of each semester or may be available via the LMS site (consult your lecturer).
Most reading materials for tutorials and essays will be available from the Reserve Section of the Baillieu Library. Please contact your tutor as early as possible if you encounter difficulties in obtaining the necessary reading material.
