Cultural Management careers

Art Curatorship

Art Curatorship's postgraduate programs provide the necessary knowledge, skills and qualification for students wishing to enter the arts and museum sector. The MA course has been established since 1990 and our graduates are employed throughout Australia's cultural sector and internationally. For instance, many work in curatorial and collection management positions in a variety of art museums ranging from larger state institutions, through to regional and metropolitan galleries to community and contemporary arts spaces. They have also taken up management positions, working as directors or deputy directors in various art museums and organisations. Other employment outcomes include work in the commercial arts sector and arts auction houses; in heritage organizations and house museums; in arts policy work in government departments; in arts law and in arts publishing firms; and in academia.

Arts Management

Arts management graduates are employed across the arts and entertainment industries in Australia and internationally. A career in arts management can take you from a small collective theatre company to policy work in government, managing a festival or performance space or employment within one of a diverse range of government and non-government cultural institutions. Melbourne University graduates are employed in government, the private sector, the arts industry support network, and across the performing and visual arts.

Cinema Management

Graduates of the MA course in Cinema Management would be ideally suited to work in film distribution or exhibition, at ACMI, at the Australian Film Institute, Screen Sound, Film Victoria, the Film Finance Corporation, with community arts projects and in festivals like the Melbourne International Film Festival or the St Kilda Film Festival. Internationally opportunities exist for our graduates in distribution, exhibition or in museums or archives like the Museum of the Moving Image in New York, or FACT in Liverpool.
