School of Culture and Communication - ARC information
The Australian Research Council is the most common source of research funds for staff and post-doctoral fellowships. There are a number of different kinds of grants available, with different criteria and application dates. These pages provide links to various resources in the School of Culture and Communication, the Faculty of Arts and the University’s Research Office that can help you in preparing an application for funds to support your research.
The two main kinds of ARC grants relevant to the humanities are Discovery and Linkage Grants, involving partnership with an institution outside the University. Discovery grants provide research funding for full-time scholars; they also offer Australian Postdoctoral Fellowships that provide a salary stipend for three or four years to recent PhD graduates. Most of the links on these pages will direct you to information about these grants.
The grant shepherds in the School for 2007 are Stephanie Trigg, Deirdre Coleman, Jeanette Hoorn and Nikos Papastergiadis.
Upcoming events and deadlines
Applications for Discovery grants will close in early February 2008, for grants that will commence in 2009, but early preparation is essential. The Faculty of Arts offers a summer mentor scheme for which the deadline is 30 September 2007. To participate in this scheme, you need to submit an outline of your project and an early draft of your application to the School’s Staff Research Administrator who can be found in room 139 Elisabeth Murdoch, before Thursday 27 September 2007.
There will be a series of School workshops for prospective ARC Discovery applicants. The School’s three grant shepherds will be available at these workshops to give advice and suggestions about the process.
