School of Culture and Communication: Staying in Touch and Troubleshooting
Staying in Touch
Apart from your supervisor, the Research Student Administrator is the first person you should contact if you have queries about any aspect of your candidature, School resources or postgraduate life. Also check the School’s website regularly for updates and useful links.
Please let the Research Administrators know if you have any suggestions for the postgraduate webpages—either new ideas or improvements—it is under continual development.
These days the majority of relevant School information is communicated to postgraduates by email. If you believe you are missing out on these email circulars, please contact the Research Administrators (and make sure you have activated your University email account).
Gradflash is another important way to stay keep in the loop. It is an e-mail bulletin advertising programs, current scholarship and fellowship opportunities, conferences and events.
Troubleshooting
If you are experiencing difficulties with your postgraduate studies, there are many sources of support and assistance, in addition to your supervisor/s.
- In the first instance, please feel free to talk to your supervisor or your Research Administrator.
- If you have academic concerns about your thesis or supervisor, please contact your Research Coordinator or Head of Discipline in the first instance. In the unlikely event that they are unable to help, contact the School’s Chair of Research and/or the Head of School.
- Confidential advice and/ or counselling are provided by the Graduate Student Association (GSA) for postgraduate students and the Counselling Service for the entire university community.
- Financial assistance (in the form of student loans or bursaries, awarded on the basis of financial need) is also available. Please consult Student Services.
